1.The concept that was most challenging for me was the study of the all the microbial diseases. Microbial diseases can be caused by five different agents, these include bacteria, virus, protozoa, helminths and fungi. Between these five agents there are many diseases they can cause. These diseases range from acute conditions such as the common cold to chronic diseases such as cancer. I believe this was so challenging for me because it is so much information in such a short period of time. Many of these disease have the same signs and symptoms, making if difficult to differentiate between them.
As I progress through this program and my career I believe that the concept of disease will get easier to remember as I get to see some of them first hand. Working as a nurse you will see many patients who suffer from some sort of disease, whether acute or chronic. With experience you will gain the knowledge to be better familiarized with the specifics of diseases.
2.The concept that I would say was most challenging was immunology and host-microbe interactions. Studying how microorganisms interact with their hosts and the immune system presents challenges due to the intricacies of the immune response and the complex interactions between pathogens and the host’s defenses. Another challenging concept is microbial diversity. The diversity of microorganisms, including bacteria, archaea, fungi, viruses, and protists, poses a significant challenge (Dunlap, 2001). Understanding the classification, identification, and characteristics of various microbial species can be complex, as there are millions of different microorganisms with unique features and ecological roles. As I progress through my nursing degree program and career, there are several steps I can take to learn more about challenging concepts. For example, using online sources to look more into the concept, attending specialized courses and workshops, or even just seeking guidance from nursing educators or peers.
