Teacher’s Instructions
In class we have discussed the “colonial legacy” of Latin America, which is a term that refers to how European conquest and colonization in the 16th and 17th centuries affected and continue to affect Latin American society today.
You have also read, in the texts assigned for class, about different long-terms effects of that colonial legacy, and about how having been a European colony affects views on class, race, gender, property, work, identity (and many other aspects of society) today.
With this in mind, write an essay in which you develop a well-argued and evidence-based answer to the following question:
What is the relationship between the colonial legacy of Latin America and current inequality in Latin American societies?
(NOTE: “Inequality” refers to the phenomenon of unequal and/or unjust distribution of resources and opportunities among members of a given society)
Make sure to include quotes as supporting evidence of your argument from at least two of the readings (or viewings or listening of audio recordings) that you have done so far for class. You can choose to focus on a specific country or region, or if you prefer you can compare examples from across Latin America.
Your essay should be 3 pages long, Times New Roman font, 12 points, 2.0 line-spacing
