The purpose of the therapy centers on the difference in parenting styles expressed by Jose and Suzanne. Jose subscribes to a hands-on and aggressive form of discipline, while Suzanne believes that discussions and consequences for actions (that is, taking away privileges in the home) is a more modern way to parent their three sons. In a recent family session, Kale shared that the pronoun he did not apply to himself. Kale said, “I am gender non-conforming.”
