You used the HR Diagram to find absolute magnitudes of hypothetical main sequence stars of known temperature. You will now perform a simple calculation to find the luminosity (power output) of those stars, in units of solar luminosities.
The luminosity of a star in units of solar luminosities is L = 10 ^ (0.4 * (4.83 – M)), where M is the absolute magnitude of the star, and 4.83 is the absolute magnitude of the Sun.
So, let’s say you got M = 5 for the 6000 K star. Just plug into the formula, thus:
L = 10 ^ (0.4 * (4.83 – M))
L = 10 ^ (0.4 * (4.83 – 5))
To get the answer, just type 10 ^ (0.4 *(4.83 – 5)) into Google and it will return 0.855. The 0.855 means that your M = 5 star is 0.855 times as luminous as the Sun. It is less luminous than the Sun.
Do this calculation using the absolute magnitudes you got for stars of temperatures 10000 K, 8000 K, 6000 K and 5000 K.
